Interviewing, Resume, and Cover Letter Workshop
Senior nursing students in NURS40005 recently took part in a workshop in the Commons at Kent Geauga. The workshop was geared towards helping students prepare for searching for a professional nursing position. There were five stations for the students to rotate through. They all started at one of the five stations, then every twenty minutes they moved to the next station. Michelle Bozeman from the College of Nursing Self-Care Institute spoke with students about overcoming nervousness and incorporating self-care techniques as they travel through this stressful time. Katie McGee, Student Advisor, discussed dressing for success and making a good first impression. Donna Walker, Student Advisor, discussed how to write a resume that gets noticed. Ben Morrison, Director of Academic Support Services, discussed how to create a good cover letter. Associate Lecturer Kay Gurtz, instructor for the course, organized the event. She provided information to students on interviewing and perfecting their e-portfolios for use in their job search process. Seniors left the workshop with more information about the process of searching for a professional position. Comments heard included, "This was really helpful", "I learned a great deal", and "I feel like I understand what I will need to do to get a great job."
