Kent State University Gospel Choir Gives Free Concert Sunday at 3 p.m.

Salem, Ohio – Kent State University’s Gospel Choir will perform a free concert this Sunday at 3 p.m. The concert, which is sponsored by Kent State University at Salem, is part of the campus’ annual Symphonious Sunday Series. All concerts are free and held in the second floor auditorium of the Kent State City Center, located at 230 N. Lincoln Ave. in Salem. The award-winning Kent State University Gospel Choir is a "unique experience because students get to sing gospel music for academic credit, in an outstanding ensemble that enjoys an excellent national and international reputation and under the guidance of a knowledgeable and experienced professional," says Director Dr. Linda Walker.
On Sunday, the group will perform an array of songs including “Show Me Your Ways,” “I Bless Your Name” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name,” among others.
Founded in 1996 by Walker, the Kent State Gospel Choir has earned an excellent local, regional, national and international reputation. This past July, the choir was invited to perform in an international choir at the Prague Gospel Festival. Choir members include Kent State students, faculty, staff and members of the community. The choir provides an opportunity to engage students in an inclusive and welcoming environment that is stable, very organized and highly structured.
At the Kent State Columbiana County campuses, students can earn a bachelor’s degree in 14 different disciplines or an associate’s degree in 14 different areas. The Kent State Columbiana County campuses, which include Kent State at East Liverpool and Kent State at Salem, are home to more than 3,500 students. Additional concerts this semester include the West Branch High School Choir following the Salem City Parade, Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. and Kent State Salem Communiversity Choir on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
