Open House: Discover KSU's Opportunities in OTA/PTA

Posted Mar. 25, 2010

For those curious about careers in high employment areas such as occupational therapy assistant (OTA) and physical therapist assistant (PTA), Kent State at East Liverpool will hold an open house Thursday April 1 to showcase these occupations. The event is from 5-7 p.m. in the Brown Room of the school’s Mary Patterson Building, located at 213 E. Fourth Ave. in downtown East Liverpool.

“The open house allows prospective students the opportunity to meet with the director and faculty members and to speak with current students of the program,” said Director Mary Lynne Fedor, who heads the physical therapist assistant program.

The open house gives prospective students an in depth look at what the occupations of physical therapist assistant and occupational therapy assistant offer. Prospective students will also tour the facility and receive an overview of the programs. In addition, students learn about admission requirements and financial aid.

“Hopefully if students are on the fence about attending these programs the open house will help make up their mind,” said Director Harriett Bynum who oversees the occupational therapy assistant program.

According to Ohio’s Job and Family Services, jobs for physical therapist assistants are projected to grow. The office lists this occupation as being a “high employment prospect” with those currently in the field making an average of $49,000 (based on Nov. 2008 average wages). The median wage in Ohio occupational therapy assistants for the same year was approximately $49,000.

For more information about the open house, or to make an appointment with an advisor, please call the campus at 330-385-3805.
