Assistant Professor Dr. Haiyan Zhu is the newest Biology faculty member to join Kent State University at East Liverpool. Dr. Zhu comes to the University from the University of Kentucky, where she earned a Ph.D. in Physiology.

Prior to her post with Kent State East Liverpool, Dr. Zhu has worked for the University of Kentucky’s Medical Center. She also worked as an instructor at the Lexington Chinese School in Lexington, Kentucky.

Dr. Zhu has received the National Institutes of Health Predoctoral Training Grant Fellowship “Molecular and Cellular Aspects of Brain Aging” from the University of Kentucky. She also was awarded a fellowship from the Ellison Medical Foundation to attend a course on the molecular biology of aging at the Marine Biological Laboratory.

Dr. Zhu has worked in multiple fields, including macromolecular isolation and analyses, aging and age-related neurodegenerative disease study, molecular biology, human genetics association, primary cell culture and transgenic mice models. 

Dr. Zhu’s work has been presented at local, nation and international meetings and conferences. In 2009, she was selected to give an oral presentation at the Society for Neuroscience meeting, which was held in Chicago, Il. Additionally, her work has been published in 15 peer-reviewed articles.
